Well, here we go on a new adjustment for our entire family. In order to remain employed with a paycheck and health insurance, allow me to stay home with the kids and for his student loans to continue to get repaid Marshall started his first day at the prison in Corcoran, CA. It is quite the adjustment as to stay here in our house his commute is now MUCH longer (today it took him 1 hr 15 minutes to get there, Google maps says 90 minutes) and he now has to do it solo since his great friend and commuting buddy got transferred to a different prison. It's also a new environment with a new boss and different rules, so I know that is a lot to handle as well. Overall, I'm just incredibly humbled and grateful at all Marshall has done to make this as seamless of a transition as possible for myself and the kids. I know it isn't easy to get up at 4:00 am and be away from us until well after 6:00 pm. I'm glad that at this point we have decided he will continue with this crazy commute until (hopefully!) all of his loans get repaid and then we can step back and reassess everything. As of now he doesn't see his lifelong career being with the CA Dept of Corrections so it will be interesting to see where the path leads us once this section is completed.
The kids are doing incredibly well! Hazel is learning new stuff everyday and keeps coming up with things that both surprise me and make me laugh! She can sing all of her ABC's, count to 20 and really enjoys "reading" to me (i.e. reciting from memory what she knows the story to be!). She is such an incredibly loving little girl and is constantly checking on her brother, giving him kisses and trying to feed him.
Roscoe is really growing up now too but seems like so much more of a "baby" at this age than Hazel did. I think it's because when she was his age now we also had a newborn so by default she just seemed like a big kid. He is starting to say a *few* words and really enjoys doing the hand motions to lots of songs along with his sister. He is still waking up around 1-2 times a night but is really sweet when he does (he just seems quite awake in the middle of the night) so I'm trying to just live in the moment and relish this fleeting time of being able to sit and rock my baby boy out on the recliner.
Life is going great and I'm just excited to get moving on with 2012 and see where it leads us.

And props to you for sacrificing your former job and livelihood to stay at home with your kids! Gotta love your kids, but that's one LONG day with them. :)
