Second Trimester

Part of me wants to say "It's already the second trimester??" while the other part wants to say "It's only the second trimester??" Anyway you slice it though it is here as we just hit 14 weeks yesterday. I am really happy to be done with (most of) the fear and what ifs of the first trimester and still anxiously awaiting the return of my energy and loss of this all day nausea! I keep holding on day by day knowing that it will happen at some point, and I'm guessing I probably won't even notice it at first.

We had a fun and relaxing weekend. After having so much fun in the snow last weekend and Hazel asking again to go we decided to head up to Shaver Lake on Sunday morning. It was another fun day in the snow with the kiddos, and now that we have all the snow gear and snacking figured out it is a much more streamlined process to get up and out the door.

Hazel had her "big" dentist appointment yesterday and it was quite the doozy. She had a checkup in July and was told she has four small cavities. It is tough cause she just adores brushing her teeth and is really good about it. However it does seem that she has some predispositions to getting cavities, so better to get on it now and get it fixed & then work on some preventative measures (such as sealants for her deeply grooved teeth and chewing sugarless gum between meals). Marshall took her to our regular dentist and she seemed excited to go. She was happy and even let them give her the two shots without a problem. When the drill came out though everything changed and she flipped out. Marshall had to do a lot of coaxing just to get her to let them put in a temporary filling in. We were then given a referral to a pediatric dentist where we went and did a consult. They have a MUCH more relaxing, calming, kid friendly atmosphere and even the dentist commented on how great Hazel did after such a stressful morning at the dentist. We are now splitting up her cavities into three visits with nitrous oxide (this should be interesting) in addition to the Novocain  If she can't handle that then we move onto full sedation which scares the crap out of me, so here's to hoping that the new office plus the laughing gas, disney movie playing and any bribe we can think of will help! We also signed her up for gymnastics yesterday and she is so excited! I'm excited too since this will be the first class type atmosphere that she will be attending that isn't the "Mommy & Me" format. She is so independent and outgoing I can't wait to see her make friends and have a fun time running around the gym.

Speaking of independence, I can't believe what a night and day difference there is between our daughter and son. At 2 1/2 Hazel couldn't wait to be a big girl and wanted to do most things independently. Roscoe on the other hand still says "baby" when asked whether he is a big boy or a baby! He isn't even close to being interested in potty training, is on a food strike (only drinking milk from a sippy for the most part) and still not sleeping well at night. That said though, he has made some MAJOR big boy strides. When we took away his binky he went full force into sucking his thumb (even more so than he used the binky) and we had tried several times unsuccessfully to get him to drop the habit. Well, the week before Christmas we tried again and it WORKED!!! Except for the stray occasion he hasn't sucked his thumb at all!! Not when tired, upset, bored, etc so we really think this is it! The awesome side effect of this has been that his vocabulary in these last few weeks has gone through the ceiling! It has been so fun to hear more of what he thinks and has to say. He also likes to ask "why" a lot and when we tell him he will say "oh, alright", it is just too cute.

Yay for second trimester! I was also hit a lot harder by this one, but noticed a HUGE improvement at around 16 weeks. I hope you have the same! Tired, nauseous, and responsible for two littles sucks!

Yay for the second trimester!! Ellie has her first dentist appointment on Thursday and I'm a little scared as we have to sing songs and make all sorts of distractions to get a good brush every night, but we'll see what happens!

Hoping you feel better soon and can't wait to hear of the next appointment and how that sweet baby is coming along!!
